Location: Kinshasa, Badara Quarters, N’Sele Township, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa
Local Organization: Re-education and housing for dispossessed children
Project: Fish Farm

Project Cost: $ 9 695.00 USD - Completed - Thank you to all donors of this project.
100%

Description :

Nutritional assistance through agricultural and fish farming projects to help 76-orphaned children abandoned and marginalized such as warlock children. Confronted with malnourishment lacking in proteins and vitamins we wish to help these children by excavating a pond that would allow them to farm fish for a richer daily diet.

This amount includes the necessary funds to build a small house for a sentinel. The land where the agricultural and fishpond are located is in an isolated area. Without full time surveillance, products from the fields are stolen and the fish are fished out.

Goals:

  • Provide children with enough fish for at least two to three meals per week.
  • Plant a variety of vegetables and foliage on a hectare of land, introducing more vitamins to their diets.

Description :

Nutritional support through an agricultural and aviculture project to assist undernourished children and adults.Nutritional support through an agricultural and aviculture project to assist undernourished children and adults. Because of the nutritional difficulties experienced by many families in the region of Mateko, we wish to help them by presenting workshops on agriculture and animal husbandry. We will also supply the necessary agricultural equipment such as: wheelbarrows, spades, hoes, rakes and watering cans to each group from the five villages. Our local trainers will travel to the four targeted villages to supervise the groups’ endeavours. A large diversity of seeds will be planted bringing families foods rich in vitamins.

Additionally, a chicken coup will be built in Mateko providing shelter for about one hundred laying hens. This project’s aim is to enrich the diet for the undernourished. If this has a positive outcome, we will introduce it to the other four villages.

Goals:

  • Eradicate malnourishment in isolated villages.
  • Make available to poor families a great diversity in vegetables, obtaining a better concentration of vitamins as well as eliminating illness due to malnutrition.
  • More than 120 people (orphans, one parent families and senior citizens) will benefit each and every day from this program.

Description:

The purchase and installation of a manioc, corn and soya power generated mill. Women from the village spend the whole day in the forest (4:00 AM to 8:00 PM). They come home exhausted. Most of these women do not have paying jobs and depend on their husband’s meagre salary. We have therefore created a local organization to help them take charge. The RMNJ focuses on agricultural work and teaches mothers how to make bread, nut milk and soya milk. They also learn how to make soap and fermented wine.

Goals:

  • Reduce by two to three hours the daily work of these women through the use of a power-driven mill.
  • Fight malnutrition through improved nourishment.

Category: Social Development
# Project : AFDS004
Location: Mateko, Bandundu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa
Local Organization: Mateko Mission

Project Cost: $ 2 000.00 USD
0%

Description:

Purchase of 20 bikes as a mode of transportation for villagers. Congolese walk an average of 20 kilometers, and sometimes more, to travel from one village to another. There is no means of communication such as telephone or internet in these villages. Communication is only done through walking whatever distance necessary. The transportation of sick individuals is done by a family member carrying the patient on their back to the nearest dispensary. A bicycle is an essential means of transportation which allows great autonomy.

Goals:

  • Help transport patients on a stretcher mounted bicycle.
  • Save on energy and time expended by people walking many kilometers in the hot sun or under heavy rain.
  • Counteract related health issues to these long journeys (dehydration, heat stroke, fatigue)
  • Reduce long periods of absence from the family.
  • Avoid transporting heavy loads on head, back and shoulders.
